International Conference on
Gender, Science and Technology for Sustainable Development: Looking Ahead to the Next 10 Years
The Gender Advisory Board of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development held an international conference on December 12-13, 2006 with representatives of the key networks, agencies and organisations working on gender, science and technology for development globally to:
- Review the lessons learned from international efforts over the past decade to achieve greater gender equity in science and technology for development.
- On the basis of these lessons and new development goals, identify what further international and national action is required for the next decade.
- Review the institutional arrangements, especially at the international level, that are needed to ensure that action and implementation occur.
Participating organisations included: Gender Advisory Board, UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development; UNESCO; Global Alliance for Diversifying the Science and Engineering Workforce; Third World Organisation of Women in Science; National Council for Women, Egypt; WIGSAT; Inter Academy Council; International Science Council (ICSU) and others.
The meeting was hosted by the Science Analysis Division, Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO, in Paris, France.
